I found out rather quickly that there are two arenas I need to excel in to market effectively – online and offline. My online efforts include things like website optimization, starting a blog, and doing other things to get my DUI website noticed by Google. It also included an adwords campaign.

If you don’t know what an adwords campaign is, it’s basically an advertising campaign on Google. When people search for things Google takes that information and tries to put ads in front of them that are relevant to what they are looking for. A search for DUI attorney Seattle, for example, gets a bunch of attorney ads.

What I found out after a few months online ad campaigning didn’t surprise me much. The stories about people skipping over these ads is mostly true. People know the ads are there and every day are becoming more and more conditioned to just skip over them (I am even that way). So, the clicks that you see are limited in number.

But, what I also found was that for what I was paying for the ads, it didn’t take much business to pay for the ads and start making money. Essentially, in my line of work as a DUI defense attorney, it only took one client a month to pay off and make a profit off the adwords ads.

In the end, I think whether or not adwords ads will work for your business depends on the type of business you are in. If it is a trade that gets a lot of internet searches, is not well known throughout the community (many people don’t know criminal attorneys, for example), and you can get eyeballs on your ads, they can be beneficial. Like a guy I know told me, “You don’t have to make all your money there, you just don’t want to lose money.

Ppc – Does Google Hate MLM and Direct Sales? Now What?

If you have been following the changes that Google is making in the last few months you will begin to see a pattern. The most significant change I have seen that has opened many eyes to what is going on is the recent shutdown of PPC Legend, Perry Marshall. He had ALL of his ads disapproved or graded so low that they would never show. You must be aware that he spends nearly $1 million dollars yearly with Google.Question is why would they do that?

Google generates around 20 billion dollars yearly in revenues so a $1 million dollar client is not much revenue..Question is if this does not affect them financially why bother?

People who have contacted Google after their ads have been closed , were told that direct sales,MLM and affiliate sales are not legal business.Again this is not an isolated case. It has happened time and time again. If you look at Perry Marshall’s article on illegitimate Businesses, you will observe that this is not a one off.

Jim Yaghi, in his article ‘Does Google hate Affiliate Advertisers?’ talked about the many people who have been effected by Google’s new practices. So people like us who are in the MLM business, will have to look for other options because Google no longer wants us to advertise with them.

I made a decision a few months back that I was no longer going to rely on Google strictly for the cost. In the long run the cost was not justified, though i had the cost per lead to less then $5 and i wanted many leads. Apart from Twitter which i am using, i started looking for other ways. I began a multi-pronged approach where I was writing articles, started my blog and began marketing on Facebook. I could grow 30-50 leads daily by using all of these techniques together with improvements in other techniques. On some days i have had more then 80 leads. I cannot say that all these are free leads because I use some safe lists that are paid subscriptions. They are almost free. From my safe list, the cost per lead comes to under a dollar which is crazy. I think by the end of my 1 year subscription I am going to see the cost per lead to be about 30 cents.

All this to say that if you are relying on PPC for your leads, you will need to change your mindset because that is only because they have not yet caught up to you but they will. You need to come up with some other strategies. I am glad I did.
